PARKS ALLEYS PLAZAS /

Two historic phenomena informed this proposal:

  1. The deformation of the O’Farrel Grid into public PARKS, ALLEYS, + PLAZAS, and

  2. The chaotic extension of this grid with a “forrest of masts” in the effort to physically create new space.

Thus the history of extending the grid into the Bay is
used as metaphor for the extension of public space
with a series of vertical elements. These elements
serve as wind breaks, playground equipment,
vegetation, sculpture and more.
